About the artist….
I studied arts and humanities in Heidelberg and Berlin in the 90’s. That’s when I started painting and writing. I created computer games and board games, puppets and series of drawings and wrote lots of books (fiction and non-fiction) and plays for radio and the screen. I even won awards for this. But my passion is painting.
Truly new and genuine things have always fascinated me and I spent years thinking about creating a new style in visual arts. The magic of the swarms is my latest creation. It is all about the interaction between shapes and colors. I experiment a lot with materials and techniques. Some of my paintings are traditional, e.g. on canvas, others are on wood, paper and plexiglass. I want to express a sense of connectedness of living creatures and the dynamics of positive interaction and communication.
I create outlines of moving horses, sharks, bears, birds or fish in pencil and arrange them on a surface, like Rembrandt did. This takes a lot of time, it is almost like meditation. Then things speed up with the first three or four colors. I paint relatively fast – for a very short while, because I use an algorithm (in my head) for the distribution of colors on the surface that slows me down as I continue. One obvious rule is that no two neighbouring fields can be of the same color.
